RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — Fatah official Nabil Shaath on Monday called on the EU to react decisively to the ongoing hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners.
Speaking with a delegation from the British Labor party, Shaath stressed that practical steps by the international community were vital in order to force Israel to respond.
Israeli procrastination threatens lives, the Fatah official said, adding that prisoner demands are reflected in international law.
Shaath briefed the delegation about the reconciliation process, as well as settlement activity and the ongoing Judaization of Jerusalem.
On April 17, Palestinian prisoners day, over 1,000 prisoners joined a group of hunger-strikers protesting detention without charge. Around 2,000 are now taking part in the strike, prisoners rights groups estimate.
