GAZA, (PIC)– The Palestinian Minister of Prisoners, Dr. Attallah Abu Subbah, called on the Arab League to take practical and urgent steps to save the lives of prisoners on hunger strike, stressing on the seriousness of their health condition.
Dr. Abu Subbah called in a press statement on Tuesday the permanent representatives of the Arab League, scheduled to meet and discuss the situation of Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli jails, to take practical and urgent steps and decisions in order to save the lives of the hunger striking captives and to stop the repressive measures committed by the Israeli government against them.
The minister stated that the occupation has continued to breach the agreements signed between the prisoners’ senior leadership and the prison administration, under the Egyptian auspices.
He pointed to the continuation of the solitary confinement against some prisoners and the policy of renewing the administrative detention, without legal justification or charges.
He has also pointed to the re-arrest of eight prisoners who had been liberated under Wafaa al-Ahrar prisoner exchange deal, which pushed a number of captives, such as Sharawna and Issawi to launch an open-ended hunger strike.
The minister called for placing the issue of prisoners on top priorities of the Arab League and to internationally and legally activate it in front of all the international and humanitarian forums, especially the UN General Assembly, the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council in order to stop the abuses committed against the prisoners.

“On Torture” is an edited volume of essays by Palestinian, Israeli and international legal and medical experts and practitioners based on presentations that they gave during a workshop held in Jerusalem in April 2011 entitled, “Securing Accountability for Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment (CIDT) in Israel: New Trends and Comparative Lessons”.
The essayists explore the history of torture in Israel, the daily challenges that practitioners face in seeking accountability for torture and CIDT in Israel, and the changing face of torture.
