GAZA, (PIC)– The Hamas Movement called on the Palestinian people in the West Bank to protect their mosques against settlers’ attacks and asked Muslim scholars to develop a strategy to protect mosques.

In a statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Monday, Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum condemned the Israeli arson attack on Al-Anbiya mosque in Bethlehem as a serious crime against the Islamic holy sites and a product of the meeting between Bethlehem’s governor Abdelfattah Hamayel and Israeli army’s chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi.

Spokesman Barhoum added that the settlers got the audacity to attack this mosque directly after this meeting and as a result of the war waged by the Palestinian Authority on Islam and the resistance fighters in the West Bank.

In another incident, the Israeli occupation forces intensified Monday morning their presence inside and around Burin village, south of Nablus city, after Israeli settlers declared their intention to make provocative actions in protest at not demolishing Salman Al-Faresi mosque in the village, which, they alleged, was built without permit.
