Fayyad’s gov’t names Jihad ‘banned organization’

RAMALLAH, (PIC)– The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine said Fayyad’s illegitimate government in the West Bank has officially labeled the Jihad movement a “banned organization”. The government has prohibited interaction with the group and denied its elements and supporters the right to engage in public, charitable, or social activities. The Jihad movement said in a statement on Wednesday that Fayyad’s government did not make the announcement for this decision through media, but informed several Jihad supporters and members in the West Bank. A number of the movement’s cadres said elements from the PA militia carried out an arrest campaign in recent days and summoned dozens of Jihad members to notify them of the decision. They told them to circulate the news to Jihad supporters throughout the West Bank. An official source in Jihad said the militia forced detainees to sign a pledge stating that Islamic Jihad is a banned organization in the West Bank and that whoever cooperates with it or engages in any activity for its interest will be prosecuted. The source stressed that the pledge also included a commitment not to engage in any activities to commemorate the death of Islamic Jihad Movement founder Dr. Fathi al-Shiqaqi or the 23rd anniversary of the Jihad’s inception. The militia threatened that if Jihad members did not sign the pledge, they would be penalized and remain wanted by the PA.
