PARIS, (PIC)– Richard Prasquier, President of the Representative Council of French Jewish Institutions, said an upcoming meeting may be held between de facto Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton under French auspices in Paris this October 21.

Prasquier said following a meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy: “The President told me he would do everything in his power to advance the negotiations. I believe there is something anticipated on the 21 of October in Paris between Israeli Prime Minister, Mahmoud Abbas, and Clinton.”

“I cannot say that it is certain, but it is a strong possibility,” Prasquier added. The French President refused to comment on the remarks.

Sarkozy announced last week after lunch with the Palestinian de facto president that Abbas, Netanyahu, and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will come to Paris to prepare for an EU summit to be held at the end of November in Barcelona.

Sarkozy said during a press conference the method the U.S. has used for conducting peace talks for the last ten years has failed, calling for a bigger EU role.

The anticipated meeting comes at a time when Israeli violations against the Palestinians are on the rise.
