GENEVA, (PIC)– The Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union has passed a unanimous decision asking Israel to release all detained Palestinian MPs and to reverse its decision to deport three Jerusalemite deputies.

It said in a statement on Wednesday that the exile of those deputies from Jerusalem was “cruel, inhuman, and unethical”.

It said that the step was a serious precedent that paves the way for justifying the deportation of other Jerusalemites from their city, and asked the Israeli interior minister to retract his decision in this regard.

The council reiterated assertion that arresting people’s representatives was in violation of the international law.

The council finally asked Israel to allow an IPU representative to visit the detained Palestinian MPs to get acquainted with their health and other conditions in detention.
