GAZA, (PIC)– Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, member of Hamas’s political bureau, has disclosed Thursday that there was agreement between Hamas and Fatah Movements on most of the security issues in the ongoing reconciliation efforts between them, adding that the remaining topics would be discussed late this month.

“Fatah has agreed on Hamas’s point of view regarding the central election committee, the judicial committee on elections, and the interim leadership in the PLO, which Fatah had been rejecting all the times in the past”, Zahhar said in an interview with the PIC.

When asked on whether the frenzied repressive campaign against Hamas supporters in the West Bank would hinder the reconciliation efforts, Zahhar stressed that achieving national reconciliation was and will remain strategic option for Hamas. However, he explained that there was a group of people, including leaders of the PA security apparatuses in the West Bank and the illegitimate government of Salam Fayyadh who want to abort the national reconciliation because “it doesn’t serve their interests”.

“The national reconciliation isn’t in the interest of Fayyadh’s government because it has no legitimacy and was not endorsed by the PLC, in addition to the fact that both the USA and the Israeli occupation reject the Palestinian reconciliation,” Zahhar pointed out.

Zahhar also warned that the defunct Fatah-controlled PA security apparatuses in Gaza used such repressive efforts against Hamas members in the Gaza Strip in the past, but it failed to achieve its goals and turned against them, hence, I believe that those repressive measures against Hamas members in the West Bank won’t serve Mahmoud Abbas.
