GAZA, (PIC)– Hamas MP Ismail Al-Ashqar has said that the Fatah-controlled authority in Ramallah’s security coordination with the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) was the biggest obstacle in face of national reconciliation.

Ashqar, who is deputy head of the Hamas parliamentary bloc, said in a press release on Monday that his movement was serious in its reconciliation overtures and considered it a “strategic option” that must be achieved in accordance with certain principles that preserve the Palestinian people’s rights and constants.

Continuation of division only serves the “Zionist enemy” and the group supporting ceding Palestinian rights, the lawmaker charged.

Ashqar said that Hamas wants Fatah to return to its original role as a national liberation movement.

The MP stressed that restructuring the security apparatuses in the West Bank and Gaza Strip would take place according to national unanimity and to what all factions want and not as Fatah wants.

Ashqar: Security coordination with IOA topmost obstacle before reconciliation.
