RAMALLAH, (PIC)– The Palestinian Authority’s ministry of education accepted to introduce a new book into West Bank schools addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict according to the Israeli point of view as part of a joint subject dealing with two different opinions.

This is part of a European project funded by a Swedish foundation that supports projects of normalization between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The Israeli education ministry, for its part, refused to bring this new book into its schools because it will discusses the Israeli-Palestinian conflict according to the Palestinian point of view, saying that Israel’s side of the story is the only one that should be told to Israeli students in its schools.

The book was published under the title “Learning the other’s historical account” and was composed by Israeli and Palestinian writers.

The book covers the early stages of the Zionist movement and will be introduced first in two Palestinian schools in Jericho.
Hamas lawmakers in the West Bank strongly denounced the step, saying that teaching the book to the students would make them doubt “our usurped rights”.
They charged the Fatah-controlled authority in Ramallah with collusion in the Israeli attempt to spread ignorance among the Palestinians on their true history.
The MPs asked the Ramallah authority to stop tampering with the future of our cause, and urged the parents to refuse such kind of syllabuses.
