Hindi: Palestinians on verge of new round of conflict

GAZA, (PIC)– The Islamic Jihad Movement said it is not intimidated by recent Israeli threats of a new war against the Gaza Strip, adding that the group does anticipate a new round of conflicts.

Jihad politburo member Dr Mohammed Hindi said Wednesday in a press conference in Gaza: “Continued Israeli threats to Gaza do not intimidate us, but we are taking these threats seriously, and we are prepared to confront any military action.”

“Israel is no longer able to resolve wars in hours or days as they did during the past century,” he added.

“Talks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip owning anti-aircraft weapons is a way to produce a justification for the new aggression on the Gaza Strip,” Hindi went on to say.

“The Palestinians are on the verge of a new round of conflict, and the talked-about Palestinian state is an illusion.”

He stressed that the future is for the resistance factions despite persecution in the West Bank by Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

“If the political process comes to a dead end – and it will – the future will be for the resistance [movement]. If we do come to an agreement that represents the minimum of Palestinian constants and rights, what should we do? There is nothing but resistance.”

“As for talks about a state of economic peace, it is an illusion sold to the Palestinians.”

“Negotiations have no goal, and if the negotiations do not achieve their goal, they should be stopped, and Mahmoud Abbas should announce to the public that the [peace] option has failed, and work to adopt another strategy as a way out, as did the late President Yasser Arafat after the second Camp David talks.”

“It is inconceivable that we would remain for all these years moving on this path (i.e. the path of peace talks). Is the life of the people a game? There are other options besides negotiations. We await President Abbas to announce the failure of the political resolution to the Palestinian people.”

The senior Jihad official concluded by expressing sorrow that Palestinian reconciliation has become a hostage to foreign pressure and the U.S. veto as admitted by the Palestinian Authority.
