CAIRO, (PIC)– Observers in Cairo have proposed the participation of Egypt in the upcoming Hamas-Fatah meeting in Damascus to ensure all obstacles would be overcome especially when Cairo had objected to Hamas’s participation in leading PA security apparatuses. Mohammed Juma, a researcher in Palestinian affairs, told the PIC that it would be better to have a small Egyptian official delegation in the meeting following the reported Egyptian reservations on Hamas’s participation in commanding posts in the PA security bodies. He explained that the step would remove many obstacles before conclusion of a final agreement between Palestinian parties. For his part, Ibrahim Al-Dirwai, a media specialist in the Palestinian affairs, welcomed the idea of an Egyptian delegation in the Damascus meeting. He added that it would help in restoring cohesion to Egypt’s ties with Hamas following a period of chill in those relations. Any decision would be binding to all parties particularly with the presence of the Egyptian side, Dirawi elaborated. The media expert, however, ruled out success of the Damascus meeting in view of the sensitivity of the security issue and the disparity in the two movement’s opinions regarding it especially with the continued security coordination between Fatah and the Israeli occupation authority. |
