For its part, the high national committee for the support of prisoners expressed its dismay at the remarks made by Fatah faction in which it slammed the Palestinian security forces in the Gaza Strip for summoning one of its cadres called Salah Abu Khatla, while it ignored hundreds of ex-detainees and national figures who were imprisoned or are still in its jails in the West Bank. The committee demanded Hamas to make the release of all prisoners from West Bank jails a precondition before going into reconciliation talks with Fatah. In this regard, secretary general of the Palestinian legislative council Mahmoud Al-Ramhi stated that the seriousness of the internal division in the Palestinian arena went beyond estrangement between political elites and caused a split in the Palestinian social fabric Ramhi made his remarks during his participation in a conference on Tuesday entitled “the national dialog is the way to an independent state.” The lawmaker affirmed the possibility of achieving a comprehensive national reconciliation, but he noted that this reconciliation must be sustainable and this can only be realized through reforming the Palestinian liberation organization (PLO) and rebuilding the Palestinian security apparatuses on national bases. “For the reconciliation to be sustainable, the security coordination [with Israel] must be stopped and the security apparatuses, which refuse to comply with the decisions issued by the high court of justice [in the West Bank], must be curbed,” he underlined. |
