Lieberman: No reason for renewing freeze on settlement building

NAZARETH, (PIC)– Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman has said that his government does not find a reason for renewing the freeze on settlement building because it did not contribute to activating the “peace process” with the Palestinians.

Lieberman, addressing a press conference in Ljubljana on Monday after meeting with his Slovenian opposite number Samuel Žbogar, said that after ten months of freeze “we are still at a deadlock”.

“If the Palestinian officials are ready for new negotiations, let them come and we will discuss all issues but without pre conditions,” he elaborated.

Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority led by de facto president Mahmoud Abbas started on 2nd September 2010 but came to halt on 26th of the same month after the freeze on building within West Bank settlements expired.

Israel refused to renew the freeze and allowed resumption of construction work in those settlements.
