GAZA, (PIC)– Senior Hamas official Salah Al-Bardawil said that the inter-Palestinian division could be ended if Fatah faction was serious and stopped using the national reconciliation with its rivals as a bargaining chip for the resumption of peace talks with the Israeli side.

Bardawil told Quds Press that if Fatah was serious about the reconciliation, there would be an agreement ending the division, but if it kept engaging in reconciliation talks with Hamas whenever it found itself in a dilemma, no agreement in this regard would come to the surface.

“I say to Fatah that the Palestinian cause is at a crossroads and the enemy announced it openly that it would give nothing in the negotiations, so it is time to go back to square one in order to end the division and achieve the reconciliation through rebuilding the liberation organization and agreeing on a philosophy capable of confronting the occupation and defending the Palestinian rights,” the Hamas official highlighted.

In another context, exiled Jerusalemite lawmaker Mohamed Abu Tir denounced the political arrests carried out by the Palestinian authority (PA) in the West Bank and considered the behavior of the PA security apparatuses a departure from the role it should play and the higher interests of the Palestinian people.

This came in a letter sent by Abu Tir to de facto president Mahmoud Abbas. The letter was handed to Fatah official Azzam Al-Ahmed during his meeting with him in the West Bank.

Abu Tir said in his letter that the Palestinian leadership should reorient its compass towards the national reconciliation and not the security cooperation with the Israeli occupation.
