OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– Preacher of the Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Mohamed Salim called on Friday on the Arab and Islamic worlds to organiza a conference and a summit meeting in support of the occupied city of Jerusalem and the holy Aqsa Mosque.

Sheikh Salim said it is time for the Arab and Islamic countries to hold a conference addressing the Israeli dangers threatening Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.

The preacher added that he seriously considers the Israeli official remarks talking about the collapse of the Mosque, saying that Arabs and Muslims should develop a mechanism to retaliate to the Zionist schemes.

In another context, Haaretz newspaper reported that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) confiscated more than 50 dunums of Palestinian lands belonging to people from the village of Beit Iksa northwest of Jerusalem in order to establish a railroad linking the holy city with Tel Aviv.

The IOA will remove thousands of olive and citrus trees as well as other kinds of trees from these lands in order to build this railroad.

Local and international human rights organizations tried to convince the Israeli government to stop this project, but to no avail.

In a separate incident, member of the Israeli municipal council and left-winger from Meretz party Baba Lalou revealed that the Israeli declared intention to build 27 housing units on the Mount of Olives (Beit Orot) is only the first stage of a wider settlement project aimed at controlling the entrance to this Mount.

Lalou warned that this settlement outpost will be a source of friction with Palestinian citizens because it will center the neighborhoods of Attour and Sawana, change the face of the area, and reduce the expansion of Palestinian construction.

He added that the settlement activities in the Mount of Olives is aimed to bring more Jewish settlers to this strategic area and to connect settlement outposts in Al-Makabir Mount, Silwan district, and the neighborhoods of Rass Al-Amud, Attur, Sawana and Sheikh Jarrah with each other in order to form a settlement circle isolating these Palestinian neighborhoods and encircling the Old City of Jerusalem.
