OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– The higher Islamic council in the 1948 occupied lands filed a petition with the Israeli central court demanding the repeal of plans to change Al-Buraq (wailing) square near the Aqsa Mosque.

Head of the council Mahmoud Masalha said that the petition included a request to revoke the plans approved by the Israeli municipal council’s planning and building committee in occupied Jerusalem to Judaize Al-Buraq square.

Masalha added that these plans are against international law as well as the central court which admitted that any changes to the Buraq are illegal except they are made with the consent and participation of all concerned parties.

The Israeli planning and building committee had ratified at the beginning of October a plan aimed at changing the features of Jerusalem in general, including the establishment of a building and a Jewish museum on an area of 3, 700 square meters in the western side of Al-Buraq square.

It also declared a plan to build a huge entrance or passage underground connecting the “Jewish neighborhood” with Al-Buraq square.

The council head pointed out that the Israeli government did not take the consent of Jordan which is responsible for the holy sites in Jerusalem according to the bilateral peace treaty between the two sides or even the UNESCO before embarking on such plans.
