GAZA, (PIC)– The Palestinian government in Gaza called on the UN Wednesday to clarify its position on statements made by its envoy to the Mideast Robert Serry justifying Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

We were surprised today by official statements issued by the UN Middle East envoy that it is Israel’s right to defend itself, said government spokesman Tahir al-Nunu in a press release, condemning also statements that “extremist groups in the Gaza Strip randomly fired missiles at Israel.”

Nunu accused Serry of justifying Israel’s aggression against the Palestinians in Gaza and mixing up facts, being that the Gaza Strip falls under Israeli occupation and an illegal blockade, and suffers daily from lethal air strikes against Palestinian targets.

Nunu called on the UN and its member nations to clarify if they back Serry’s statements, and appealed to Arab states to take a clear stand against the UN envoy’s attitude.

Nunu called on Serry to correct his position and respect the rights of the Palestinians under UN law and relevant resolutions, and not to take double standards.
