The Palestinian Authority (PA) has denounced Israel’s killing of a Palestinian woman by subjecting the victim to tear gas inhalation as a ‘war crime.’

The 36-year-old Jawahir Abu Rahmah died at the Ramallah medical compound in the central part of the occupied West Bank, having been poisoned by the active ingredient of the tear gas fired by the Israeli troops at peaceful anti-Israeli protesters on Friday, the Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported.

“We condemn this abominable crime by the Israeli occupation Army in Bilin,” PA’s chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said on Saturday, referring to the western West Bank village, where the crackdown had taken place, AFP reported.

The PA would regard the incident as “an Israeli war crime against our people,” he added.

Organizers said that 1,000 people joined the year’s final protest against Tel Aviv’s land appropriations, which was also attended by the PA’s caretaker Prime Minister Salam Feyadh, Ma’an said.

Mohammed Khatib with the local popular committee said, “We are shocked and furious for Israel’s brutality, which once again cost the life of a peaceful demonstrator. Israel’s lethal and inhumane response to our struggle will not pass. In the dawn of a new decade, it is time for the world to ask Israel for accountability and to bring about an end to the occupation.”

Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, B’tselem, has accused the forces of using banned and deadly tear gas canisters against the demonstrators.
