Silwan, Jerusalem (SILWANIC) —  The Jerusalem Municipality demolished a Palestinian kiosk in Sultan Street, outside Herod’s Gate of the Old City, this morning. Kiosk manager Wa’el Razem was not issued prior warning of the demolition, carried out by a large joint force of Israeli military special forces and Municipality workers. The shopfront was dismantled and its contents confiscated.

Officers informed Razem that a demolition order, or prior warning, was not legally required for the operation. Razem estimated that the loss of the 20 square meter kiosk, which has been in operation for 11 years, has lost him approximately 150,000 NIS. The income earnt from the kiosk has supported not only Razem but 30 of his family members since its opening.
