GAZA, (PIC)– The Palestinian government of Ismail Haneyya has called on all Palestinian factions to respect the national consensus regarding the field situation in the Gaza Strip.

Taher Al-Nunu, the government’s spokesman, said in a terse statement on Tuesday that the national consensus was based on general understanding of the public interest and of means of protecting the Palestinian people and their potentials.

Nunu stressed that the government would assume its role in boosting national agreement, adding that it was currently making local, Arab, and international contacts to ward off any possible new Israeli aggression.

For its part, Hamas movement announced in a statement on Tuesday its full backing for the government’s efforts in this regard.

It affirmed the Palestinian people’s right to resist the Israeli attacks, but said that an agreement should be made on means of preserving and maintaining resistance and at the same time realizing the people’s interests.

Hamas asked the Arab League and all concerned parties to shoulder their responsibility in face of any new Israeli war on Gaza.
