The young man comes from the city of Ramallah in the central West Bank. Israeli police said that he tired to attack the police officer, but witnesses to the attack said the police officer opened fire without any reason, and that the man did not try to attack the police officer.

In other news, earlier on Monday morning a homemade shell fired from Gaza hit an open area in the Negev desert, Israeli sources reported.

Israeli army source announced that the shell landed in open area and exploded, causing no damage or injuries. Late on Sunday night Palestinian fighters from Gaza fired three homemade shells at Israeli targets. None of the attacks caused damage or injuries.

The attacks come after Hamas asked all armed groups in the costal enclave not to fire at Israeli targets. The demand was made after Egyptian officials warned Hamas that Israel would attack Gaza if the attacks did not stop.
