The army claimed that the youth opened fire at soldiers manning the roadblock “an issue that pushed the soldiers to fire back”, according to the army report.

Soldiers closed the roadblock and deployed more troops into the area and sealed several roads.

The slain youth remained unidentified until the time of this report while eyewitnesses stated that his body remained on the ground near the roadblock while the residents were forced out of the area.

Israeli Ynet News reported that a preliminary investigation into the shooting indicated that the Palestinian allegedly approached the roadblock carrying a Kalashnikov rifle and opened fire at the soldiers who fired back and killed him. No injuries were reported among the soldiers.

The Ynet quoted an army source stating that the soldiers, manning the roadblock, acted in a professional manner.

Until the time of this report, Palestinian medics are still attempting to reach the roadblock in order to retrieve the body of the slain resident, but the soldiers are keeping them away under the pretext of declaring the area as a closed military
