NAZARETH, (PIC)– Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman dealt a blow to de facto president Mahmoud Abbas and drafted his own map of a future temporary Palestinian state within an area of 42 percent of the West Bank, senior official from the ministry said.

Lieberman’s map would essentially freeze the existing situation in the occupied Palestinian territories with minor changes, the official added.

The official claimed that Lieberman hastened to take this step unilaterally out of his conviction that the Israeli government should take the initiative by proposing a Palestinian state of provisional borders.

He stressed that this would preempt international recognition of such a state in the 1967 borders, reduce international pressure on Israel and transfer at least part of the state to the Palestinians.

The plan are based on the demarcation of the provisional borders of this Palestinian state within the areas known as A and B, which constitute about 42 percent of the West Bank.
