BETHLEHEM, (PIC)– A visit Tuesday by Hamas MPs to the Red Cross’s new representative in Bethlehem appeared to be promising for the Palestinian cause.

Joel Mehner was named the Red Cross’s representative of Jerusalem less than a month back.

She was warmly welcomed Tuesday by Bethlehem MPs Khalid Tafish, Mahmoud Al-Khatib, and Anwar Zaboun.

They briefed her on developments in the West Bank province and key issues concerning Palestinians in the region.

The exile-threatened MPs sitting at Red Cross headquarters in Jerusalem and political arrests were main concerns.

Mehner pledged to bring those issues up at a meeting of West Bank administrators expected to be held February 9.

In another context, the lawmakers condemned the rabid arrest campaign recently launched by the West Bank preventative security agency that has affected dozens so far.

They said the campaigns were suspicious and had no national, moral, or legal justification.
