CAIRO, (PIC)– Egyptian police tightened security around al-Marj prison fearing an attack by the families of detainees held at that prison.

The relative of one of the prisoners there said that he was not permitted to visit his brother who is held there and was told that visits were cancelled until the situation goes back to normal in the country. He was also told by a prison officer that they fear a repeat of what happened in Abu Za’bal.

Ayman Nofal, a Qassam commander is held at al-Marj prison after he was arrested on 27 January 2008 when Palestinians for the Gaza Strip demolished the border fence and crossed into Egypt to buy food and other necessary goods.

Nofal has been tortured and lost half his weight according to his family.
