GAZA, (PIC)– Mizan center for human rights called for not holding any elections in the occupied Palestinian territories without a national consensus.

In a statement on Monday, the center urged all Palestinian factions especially Hamas and Fatah to at least agree on holding free and fair elections as a prelude to achieving the national reconciliation.

The center stated that the elections are not a goal but a means to achieve stability within the community, activate the right of citizens to participate in the political process and realize the meanings of democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.

It added that holding elections without the national consensus make them an end in itself and not a tool to establish a healthy political system and protect the civil peace.
