RAMALLAH, (PIC)– Second deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council (PLC) Hasan Khreisheh called on de facto president Mahmoud Abbas to invite the parliament to convene again in accordance with the Palestinian law in order for the lawmakers to contribute to the national reconciliation.

“What is required today is not to call for new parliamentary and presidential elections in the presence of division and without a consensus, but for a new parliamentary round giving the PLC lawmakers a chance to contribute to the inter-Palestinian reconciliation away from external pressures which were impeding this reconciliation, especially the Arab pressures,” Khreisheh said in a press release on Monday.

The lawmaker underscored that the Palestinian liberation organization (PLO) knows that the opportunity is now favorable, after the success of the Egyptian revolution, to achieve the national reconciliation apart from the negative Arab pressures.

In this regard, the popular front for the liberation of Palestine (PFLP) stated that the reassignment of Salam Fayyad to form a new government in the West Bank would change nothing of the current national crisis.

The PFLP in a statement on Monday called for moving immediately to achieve a national consensus on rearranging the Palestinian house and prepare for the elections of the national council inside and outside Palestine in order to find a united Palestinian leadership.

For its part, Al-Dameer association for human rights said that transparent and fair elections in the West Bank cannot be held without a national consensus creating a healthy atmosphere in the Palestinian arena.

The Dameer added in a statement posted on its website that the ongoing violations of public freedoms in the West Bank make the holding of fair elections impossible.
