Medical sources said the dead men were Ashraf Qatayfan, 29, Jihad Khalef, 21, and Talat al-Ruwagh, 25.  The missile came from an Israeli warship in the early hours of the morning and killed all three immediately. The bodies were taken to Kamal Adwan hospital in Beit Lahiya.

The bodies were “heavily deformed” from the strike, said medical sources. One eyewitness said an Israeli warplane had also taken part in the attack.

According to Reuters, no Gaza militant group had yet claimed the slain men as members. Witnesses told Reuters that they had heard gunfire overnight.

The Israeli army released a statement saying that the strike was in response to five rockets that had been fired from Gaza toward towns in southern Israel.

In overnight raids by the Israeli army around the West Bank, eleven Palestinians were arrested. Three were identified as Ahmed Saeed Salah, Hosam Abu Aisha, and Bashir al-Zamel from villages near Nablus. The identities and locations of the other eight were not known at press time.
