GAZA, (PIC)– The Egyptian authorities have announced the opening of the Rafah crossing for those stranded at the crossing and for humanitarian cases only hours after a call by Sheikh Yusuf al-Qardawi for opening the border crossing.

Egyptian media said on Friday that Egyptian security decided to partially open the border crossing to allow those who got stranded on the Egyptian side as the Egyptian revolution started to enter the Gaza Strip.

Informed sources told PIC that the partial opening is a prelude to the full opening of the crossing after intensive communications between the government in Gaza with Egyptian officials who stressed they want  to see an end to the siege on Gaza and to make the movement of Palestinians in and out of the Gaza Strip easier.

Dr. Ghazi Hamad, the head of the crossings authority in the Gaza Strip, said that the Egyptian authority decided to open the Rafah crossing for three days starting Friday at 7 pm to allow Palestinians stranded on the Egyptian side to enter the Gaza Strip. He added that there were consultations going on to open the crossing permanently after the end of those three days.
