OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– The Israeli Knesset has approved a bill calling for heavy sanctions to be imposed on boycotters of Israeli companies inside Israel and abroad.

If passed, the bill would impose fines on Israelis calling for boycotts on Israel and would forbid foreign boycotters from stepping foot in Israeli-occupied territory. It would also impose sanctions on countries that pass laws boycotting Israel.

Initiated by Knesset’s coalition chairman Zeev Elkin and Kadima bloc chairwoman Dalia Itzik, the bill is expected to win Knesset majority when taken to a vote.

Economic boycotts of Israel appear to be in an upward trend in Europe and have had a significant impact raising Israeli concerns.
