AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– Youth Against Settlement in al-Khalil called for mass demonstrations on Friday towards Martyrs Street which is under occupation forces control and local residents have been barred from reaching for many years.

The group called on everyone to participate in three marches that will start at the same time from three mosques; Ali al-Bakka’ mosque, al-Ras mosque and Sahaba mosque towards Martys Street.

The Youth called the demonstrations, which foreign activists and national dignitaries are expected to participate in to call for the opening of the street which has been closed since the Ibrahimi Mosque massacre, the “Friday of anger”.

The Israeli occupation forces closed the road to traffic after the massacre and kept it open for pedestrians who had to undergo lengthy security procedures, but closed the road completely at the start of the Aqsa intifada in 2000 keeping only a little section of the road open to pedestrians.
