DAMASCUS, (PIC)– Hamas condemned the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) for detaining Sheikh Ra’ed Salah, the leader of the Islamic movement in 1948 occupied Palestine, in occupied Jerusalem.

It described Sheikh Salah’s detention  in a statement on Tuesday as a “new Zionist crime that won’t block his duty in defending occupied Jerusalem and the holy shrines”.

Hamas strongly condemned the arrest of Sheikh Salah and taking him to an unknown location, describing the step as a desperate attempt to prevent him from displaying solidarity with those staging a sit-in in Bustan suburb in occupied Jerusalem protesting Israeli demolition threats against Silwan and Bustan homes.

The movement held the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) and its intelligence apparatus fully responsible for the life of Sheikh Salah, and urged human rights groups to immediately act to pressure the IOA into releasing the Sheikh.
