PARIS, (PIC)– Union for Palestine organization in France said the holding of the first international conference on the rights of Palestinian prisoners in the Swiss city of Geneva next month is a step forward in internationalizing the issue of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.

Siham Azzein, head of the organization, stressed the need to put the European public opinion in the picture of what happens inside Israel’s prisons, especially in the presence of Israeli media misinformation working on concealing the truth and showing Israel as a democratic state.

Azzein urged the organizers to work on making the conference the starting point for a stronger start that targets all segments of the European societies across the continent in order to highlight the injustice inflicted by Israel on Palestinian prisoners.

She also emphasized the need for using international law to shed light on the legitimacy of prisoners’ rights in general, whether they were in Israeli or Arab jails, especially the rights of imprisoned women and children.

The conference will be held for two days as of March 11 under the name “Working for justice” at the UN headquarters in Geneva.

It will be organized by the European network to defend the rights of Palestinian prisoners known as “UFree,” the Swiss organization of Rights for All and North South 21 organization.
