GAZA, (PIC)– A senior official of the Palestinian chamber of commerce warned of a major crisis in importing basic goods to the besieged Gaza Strip following the closure of Al-Mintar commercial (Karni) crossing.

“The closure of Al-Mintar crossing will lead to a big crisis in the supply of all goods to the Strip, especially the flour, despite the fact that this crossing was closed to all goods except for grain and fodder four years ago,” Public relations officer of the commerce Maher Al-Taba told Quds Press on Wednesday.

He noted that the crisis of flour was expected one month ago when the signs of closing Al-Mintar crossing were there, but now it would be a crisis in many types of goods after its complete closure.

For its part, the popular committee against the siege strongly denounced Israel for its decision to close Al-Mintar crossing completely and retain only Karm Abu Salem crossing open.

The committee in a press release stated that the closure of this crossing violates international law that stipulates the need to open all commercial crossings between Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories without exception.

It pointed out that Al-Mintar crossing is the only one prepared technically to fulfill the needs of Gaza and its closure means Israeli persistence in tightening the blockade on Gaza people.
