GAZA, (PIC)– The Gaza religious affairs ministry has condemned the destruction of palaces from the Umayyad Caliphate era south of the holy Aqsa Mosque.

Israel had been drilling there to extend a network of bridges and stair rails around the archaeological area adjacent to the Mosque in order to transform the entire area into facilities for the alleged temple of Solomon.

The statement by the ministry’s Jerusalem committee says that should Israel complete its destruction of the Umayyad palaces south of the Mosque, it will be Judaized and turned into a Talmudic park, and will be linked to a ground tunnel with the entrance of the Wadi Halwa entrance in Jerusalem’s nearby Silwan district.

The statement also condemns recent decisions to evacuate two homes in the north Jerusalem district of Beit Hanina that were allegedly built without permit.

It also denounces the Israeli army’s harassment of citizens at the northern main entrance of the city’s Issawiyya district. It says that the brutal attacks are not new, but are only complementary to a series of Israeli crimes against Jerusalem residents.
