RAMALLAH, (PIC)– The second deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council Hassan Khreisha has confirmed that Palestinian Authority intelligence has interfered in issuing passports to certain citizens in Gaza.

He also confirmed that the PA has adopted a list of persons banned from receiving passports.

His statements posted on the Al Mustaqbal Al Arabi e-newspaper came in response to media statements by Ramallah’s Interior Ministry Undersecretary Hassan Alawi. He said it never occurred to him that Alawi was not informed of the PA intelligence intervention in issuing passports to some of Gaza’s citizens.

Khreisha said he had gone to the general director of the passport authority after a Gaza student asked him to help have a passport issued for him. The official later told him in the presence of an intelligence coordinator that the student was not permitted to have a passport because of his affiliation with Hamas that placed him on a banned persons list.

An official in the Palestinian intelligence agency had given the same response. Khreishe had also spoken with the director of Majid Faraj’s office in Ramallah without success.

Khreisha confirmed that the passport is the right of all citizens, and that it shall not in any way  tie anyone’s future with lists or assessments made by security agencies.
