GAZA, (PIC)– Dozens of Palestinian workmen on Monday morning rallied near Al-Mintar (Karni) crossing in the industrial zone east of Gaza to protest the Israeli closure of the crossing.

The protest was called for by the general federation of Palestinian trade unions and attended by officials from the ministry of economy.

Al-Mintar commercial crossing is the most important terminal used to provide Gaza with its vital needs and its closure by Israel increased the suffering of the besieged Gaza people.

Spokesman for the ministry of economy Hatem Aweidah stated during the protest that more than 3,900 industrial establishments were fully closed and more than 35,000 workmen became unemployed because of this closure.

Aweidah noted that Karm Abu Salem crossing is the only one still open, but it does not meet the needs of Gaza for it is not prepared to receive large shipments.

He appealed to international human rights orgnizations to intervene to break the blockade on Gaza, and called on Egypt and its revolutionary youths to stand by the Gazans and make efforts to open Rafah border crossing.
