JERICHO, (PIC)– The Israeli intelligence extended the administrative detention, without trial or charge, of Sheikh Shaker Amara, 50, for the second time only one hour before his scheduled release, Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies and human rights said.

It said in a press release on Monday that the intelligence repeated its policy of breaking the morale of detainees and their families by extending their incarceration only hours before their release.

The center said that Amara, a renowned social figure in Jericho, was arrested on 7/9/2010 only a day before Eidul Fitr and was held in administrative custody at the pretext that there was a secret file against him.

The Sheikh was detained by the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on 11 previous occasions and each time he was held in administrative detention in different periods the least being one year and the longest three years.

The wife of the Sheikh, a mother of four children, told Ahrar in a statement that she was greatly disappointed at the extension of her husband’s detention, noting that it was not the first time.

But, she noted, this time was the cruelest as their children were grown ups now and in dire need of their father, who himself had also grown old.

Ahrar appealed to the human rights groups to shed light on the suffering of families of those detainees, adding that 280 Palestinians in Negev and Ofer jails were held under administrative custody.
