Ramallah – PNN – The Palestinian Prisoners Club said on Thursday that it was a common punishment in Etzion military prison in the southern West Bank for prison staffers to make prisoners stand outside in their underwear in the winter.

Jaclyn Fararjeh,a lawyer working with the Prisoners Club, made the accusation in a press conference on behalf of Palestinian Legislative Council member Ezzam Salhab, who is in Etzion. She said prisoners were suffering from “biting cold” and medical neglect.

Said Fararjeh, “A number of them are in need of rapid treatment, while the prison authorities are procrastinating and letting their situations worsen.”

Prison cells in Etzion are overcrowded, unclean, and do not match “minimum humanitarian standards,” according to the lawyer. Full-body searches are often demanded of prisoners, male and female alike, after family visits. Prisoners in isolation, he said, are in the worst straits.
