The Israeli Radio reported Thursday that should a state be unilaterally declared “all peace deals signed with the Palestinians will become invalid”.

He added that such a declaration of statehood does not carry a real meaning, and will not help boost the stalled peace talks.

Ayalon further stated that such actions “distance any chances of real peace and encourage the Palestinians to continue their stances regarding not holding talks with Israel”.

The Palestinian Authority had to quit direct talks with Israel due to the ongoing and renewed Israeli settlement activities in the occupied territories, including in occupied East Jerusalem, in addition to the ongoing demolition of Palestinian homes in the occupied city, and the ongoing invasion and attacks in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Israel refuses to hold talks on East Jerusalem, the anticipated capital of the future Palestinian state, and refuses to hold talks on other final status issues, such as borders, natural resources and the Right of Return of the Palestinian refugees.

Several months ago, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that Jerusalem “is not a settlements” and that the “unified Jerusalem will always remain the capital of the Jewish State”.
