Juliano Mer-Khamis, the 54-year old founder of The Freedom Theater in Jenin, was murdered today by unknown assailants.

Shot five times in the theater he founded with former Al Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade military leader Zakariya Zubeidi.

Mer-Khamis was in Ramallah last night at the Al Kasaba Theater for the opening The Chairs, a play he directed and acted in by French-Romanian playwright of Eugene Ionesco.

From Israeli and Palestinian heritage, the Nazareth-born Mer-Khamis was famous for his art and activism, clashing with traditional society and the Israeli occupation.
