NABLUS, (PIC)– Director of Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies Fouad Al-Khafsh said that the policy of solitary confinement pursued by Israel is intended to humiliate the Palestinian prisoner, break his will and damage his psyche.

In an interview with the Palestinian information center (PIC), Khafsh described the isolation cell as a “tomb” designed to kill the prisoner’s soul, mind and determination.

“It is a small room with an area of 1.8 meters × 2.7 meters including a toilet and there is no space for walking or for the prisoner’s belongings; the tragedy will double if there are two prisoners in one cell,” the human rights activist added.

He noted that under such inhumane incarceration condition, some prisoners lost their mental and physical health like prisoner Abdulnasser Al-Halisi from occupied Jerusalem.

The activist stated that prisoner Halisi is serving a life sentence and has spent till now 21 years in prison, eight years in solitary confinement, which led to the deterioration of his mental health.
