Report: Barak cancels US visit

April 10, 2011

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) — Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has canceled a visit to the United States due to the violence in Gaza, reports said.

Israel Radio quoted a security source saying that “political parties including the United Nations and some European countries transferred a letter from the political wing of Hamas to Israel which includes a request to ceasefire.”

The sources added that Hamas lost around 20 people and suffered major injuries over the past two days, and that Israel is holding the movement responsible and is not showing restraint.

The sources noted that Israel is studying the likelihood of “tightening its fist” but has no set plans because “the issue depends on the Palestinians as well.”
