OSLO, (PIC)– The European Network for Supporting Rights of Palestinian Prisoners (UFree) has greatly welcomed Thursday Hamas and Fatah signing of the Egyptian reconciliation paper, urging all parties to end political detention in the Palestinian territories.

Mohammed Hamdan, the chairman of the Network asserted in an interview with the PIC that the signing of the reconciliation paper was the proper and only response to the persistent Israeli aggressions on the Palestinian people particularly in Gaza Strip.

He described the inking of the agreement as the big gate that would end political detention once and for all, urging both Hamas and Fatah to start taking practical steps that would purify the political atmosphere and to prove goodwill towards ending the political rift.

He also added that the American and Israeli threats of cutting financial assistance to the Palestinian people should push the Palestinians for more adherence and more unity to overcome the effect of those threats.

“The strong determination of the Palestinian people that they demonstrated over the past six decades couldn’t be waived by such threats because Palestinian dignity and freedom is more valuable than all the financial assistance given to them although the assistance is a right for the Palestinian people and not a gift from the international community,” Hamdan emphasized.
