PA’s bid to take the issue of Palestinian statehood to the UN in September seems to be gathering momentum.

EU Parliamentarians announced from East Jerusalem Al Quds recently that Europe will have to recognize a Palestinian state if and when the PA takes Palestinian statehood to a vote at the UN in September.

Talks between Palestinians and Israelis broke down last year after Israel refused a Palestinian and an American request to extend a settlement freeze in East Jerusalem Al Quds and the West Bank.

To break this deadlock, the PA has been rallying support for UN recognition in September, at which it will take Palestinian Statehood to a vote at the UN General Assembly.

The PA can count on the support of several Latin American and Arab countries, but Political Analysts caution that the recognition of key European countries remains crucial.

Moreover in a bold message to Washington and Israel, Palestinian rivals Fatah and Hamas announced, on Tuesday from the Egyptian Capital Cairo, that they’ve reached an agreement to form a national unity govt.

The reconciliation move which is expected to strengthen the Palestinian position in September, was welcomed by the Palestinians but received coldly by Israel, and analysts say that Israeli officials were deeply worried from the PA’s intent to go to the UN.

This is a gamble though for the Palestinians, if they eventually succeed at gaining recognition at the UN, Israel is unlikely to withdraw its occupying forces out of Palestinian territories.

On the other hand, when a Palestinian State is born, Israel will be in effect occupying another state and that will put it under risk of sanctions by the UN.

Cairo news on Palestinian reconciliation came as a surprise to many but particularly to Israel. Experts say whether or not this reconciliation will bolster the Palestinian position especially ahead of a United Nations vote recognizing Palestinian statehood in september , remains to be seen.

Israel is outraged. An agreement or unity between Palestinians is their biggest nightmare, for rule and divide serves their real intention: Ethnic cleansing and annexation of the whole of Palestine. That Israel, never had, nor will have any intention to reach a peace agreement with Palestine you can read here:
