Israeli Arabs invited to take part in Nakba marchOpportunity to demonstrate Palestinian reconciliation in the wake of the agreement signed by Fatah and Hamas

The Palestinian Arab community in Israel has been invited to take part in a march to commemorate the Nakba (Catastrophe) as the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the Zionist state approaches. The invitation has been issued by the Committee for Defending the Rights of the Displaced, which has called upon the High Follow-up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel to take part in what will be the 14th such demonstration. The villages of Al-Ruwais and Al-Damoun will provide the backdrop for this year’s march on 10th May.

In a statement, the CDRD said that the aims of the march include a commitment to the refugees’ right of return; a reminder to all generations of what happened in 1948 when Israel was founded and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their land took place; an opportunity to stress Arab unity in protest against Israel’s Nakba Law, which prohibits anyone commemorating what happened to the Palestinians in 1948; and a protest against all of Israel’s racist laws which target Palestinians living in the Zionist state.

The two committees also called on the people to use the march as an opportunity to demonstrate Palestinian reconciliation in the wake of the agreement signed by Fatah and Hamas last week in Cairo.
