Pro-Palestinian groups in the UK condemn a key Israeli lobbyist for planning a summit in London that aims to portray a positive image of the Israeli regime.

The British Israel Communications and Research Centre has organized the event, which is scheduled to be held Sunday and will feature speakers from the Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour Friends of Israel, the daily Morning Star reported.

Pro-Palestinian campaigners said the speakers of the event aim to paint a distorted picture of both pro-Palestinian campaigns and Israeli regime’s human rights abuses in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Campaigners said the timing of the event is particularly challenging as it coincides with the annual commemoration of the 1948 Nakba Day, when Palestinians were expelled from their homes or fled their towns and villages, after Israeli troops invaded their country and occupied their lands.

Pro-Palestinian groups including Jews for Justice for Palestinians (JFJP), the Jewish Socialists’ Group and Jews for Boycotting Israeli Goods (J-BIG) will mark the occasion by protesting outside Downing Street calling for an end to inhumane Israeli siege of Gaza, and occupation of Palestine.

The groups refer to a host of issues as Israeli regime’s gross violation of Palestinians’ rights, including illegal occupation of Palestinians’ lands, expansion of illegal settlements, building the apartheid wall, and Israeli regime’s refusal to abide by United Nations’ resolutions, international law and humanitarian conventions, as well as its brutal treatment of Palestinians.

“Jewish humanitarian values have been corrupted by Israel’s human rights abuses,” said JFJP spokeswoman Diana Neslen.

“This conference intends to encourage support for whatever Israel does,” added Neslen.

“If people really want to help Israel, they must speak out against its government’s policies and withdraw their support until the occupation ends,” the spokeswoman pointed out.

“Israel has criminalized the commemoration of the Nakba by those living within its jurisdiction, and yet this BICOM event seeks to justify the state [Zionist entity]’s claim to represent Jewish values of justice and compassion,” said Secretary of J-BIG Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi.

“They are going to present a hypocritical view of democracy by campaigning for Israel as ‘a Jewish and democratic state [Zionist entity]’, which excludes the non-Jews under Israeli rule.”
