The Jerusalem Magistrates Court extended the detention of Silwan woman Su’ad Shoyoukhi on Tuesday for a further 24 hours, marking the seventh time since the beginning of May that such a decision be passed. Shoyoukhi remains in detention without charge.

Her mother states that “Su’ad is blessed with high morale, but it is clear that this experience has damaged her. She is forced to undergo perpetual interrogation, and has been beaten and tortured during these days in detention.” She adds that the presiding judge had in fact ruled that she be released on bail several court appearances ago but that the state prosecutor refused to agree to her release.

Shoyoukhi’s twin brothers were also arrested recently and sentenced to house arrest for varying lengths of time.
