President Barack Obama reiterated on Sunday his idea of a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with exchanges of territory, stressing that these exchanges lead to any boundary different from that derived from the 1967 conflict.

Obama acclaimed at the annual meeting of AIPAC, the main pro-Israel lobby in the United States, ruled that “false representations” had been made of his opinion.

The president’s position “means that the parties themselves, the Israelis and the Palestinians will negotiate a boundary different from that which existed June 4, 1967” to reflect “demographic realities on the ground and the needs of both parties” he said.

Obama spoke out Thursday for the first time for a Palestinian state based on the 1967 lines, “with exchanges where both parties would agree.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who will speak Monday at his turn in front of AIPAC, has sharply rejected the idea.
