Silwan, Jerusalem (SILWANIC) — Appeals to postpone the enactment of house demolition orders in Al-Bustan district of Silwan have been refused by the Jerusalem Municipality, says Palestinian lawyer Ziad Kawar. The refusal came in spite of a District Court “recommendation” to the Municipality to extend the suspension of demolitions. A hearing had been scheduled for 24 May to negotiate an agreement the Municipality and residents but was rejected by the Municipality, who confirmed their attention to go ahead with the demolition program.

The Municipality, together with Elad settlement group, plans to establish a “biblical garden” on the site of Al-Bustan to adjoin the archaeological City of David settlement site in Wadi Hilweh neighborhood.

The next hearing is scheduled for 22 June 2011
